Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Hosts Partners in Play Event to Brighten Young Lives

The Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital hosted the Partners in Play event on March 10, an occasion designed to uplift young patients enduring serious medical challenges. This initiative brought together five local businesses dedicated to enhancing the day for these children.

Participating in this heartwarming initiative were ArrowHeart, the foundation for Arrowhead Credit Union, Burgeson’s Heating and Cooling, Contour Dermatology, La Loma Federal Credit Union, and Stater Bros Charities. Each organization contributed engaging activities and delightful small gifts aimed at brightening the spirits of pediatric patients, including those who were unable to leave their hospital beds.

The event was crafted to divert attention away from the clinical environment, offering numerous playful pursuits. Children were invited to select their own teddy bears, complete with personalized birth certificates, and take part in creative coloring sessions along with a hands-on measuring activity, for which they received a tape measure as a keepsake.

‘We are deeply grateful for the businesses that make Partners in Play possible, giving our patients precious moments of normalcy and fun,’ said Shelley Brassfield, Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation Corporate Program Coordinator.

Kathi Cochran, co-owner and marketing coordinator of Burgeson’s Heating and Cooling, reflected on the experience as a poignant reminder of resilience. ‘It was quite a moving experience to be a small part of these kids’ day. To know that many of them are fighting each day that so many people take for granted is incredibly inspiring,’ Cochran shared.

Jennifer Attah, Manager of ArrowHeart & Community Impact, added to the positive feedback. ‘At ArrowHeart Credit Union, we believe that even the smallest gestures can bring comfort and hope to children facing tough times,’ she remarked. ‘Seeing their smiles reminds us of why we do this — to bring warmth, joy, and a sense of security when they need it the most.’

For those unable to attend in person, the businesses ensured that all children felt included, as they organized take-home gifts for bedbound patients.

This event underscores how community partnerships can make a meaningful difference as the hospital continues its commitment to compassionate care.
