Round Rock ISD Board Meeting: Key Updates and Initiatives
February 20, 2025 – In a recent regular board meeting, the Round Rock Independent School District (RRISD) focused on several pivotal topics including budget updates and educational goals.
Budget Updates
The RRISD administration provided a comprehensive overview regarding the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget and the projections for 2025-2026. Chief Financial Officer Dennis Covington reported revenues rising from $458,987,000 to $464,008,000 within a span of three months. However, expenses have also increased, marking a rise from $460,083,000 to $472,199,000.
CFO Covington elaborated that adjustments, including a $5 million self-funded insurance transfer and the sale of Cypress property worth $9.3 million, have led to a revised deficit of $3.891 million. Discussions focused on balancing pressures while ensuring competitive compensation and maintaining school safety.
Health and Wellness Initiatives
The RRISD is also moving towards enhancing employee health services with the introduction of an on-site health clinic. This initiative aims to offer preventive care to staff covered under the district’s health insurance—an approach expected to help contain costs and promote well-being.
The district currently contributes $466 per employee monthly, accumulating an estimated annual budget of $30 million for health insurance in the 2024-25 period.
Discussion Items and Future Goals
The meeting included discussions on student outcome goals, legislative updates, and the status of board operating procedures. Trustee Alicia Markum shared insights into upcoming legislative changes and safety initiatives in collaboration with surrounding school districts.
Future meetings are scheduled for March 13 and March 27, where more updates on budget allocations and education priorities will be discussed. Stay tuned for additional developments in the RRISD educational landscape.
