SALT LAKE CITY — A 10-year-old boy named Wyatt Drysdale, diagnosed with brain cancer, is on a remarkable journey to visit all 50 states. After enduring extensive treatment, including radiation and chemotherapy, Wyatt’s family is committed to making beautiful memories while they can.
Wyatt was initially diagnosed in 2021 when devastating tests revealed a massive brain tumor. ‘We were devastated because we were told there was a really good chance it would never come back,’ shared his mother, Joran Drysdale. Unfortunately, the cancer returned after a brief period of being cancer-free.
Despite the challenges, the Drysdale family has embarked on an adventure across the U.S., and so far, Wyatt has visited 40 states. He follows a simple travel rule: ‘You have to either sleep there, eat there, or do an activity there.’ Tennessee has become his favorite destination, primarily due to his newfound love for roller coasters at Dollywood.
Wyatt’s health journey began four years ago when he began experiencing severe headaches. ‘We were at the doctors trying to figure things out,’ Joran recounted, before they received the life-altering news at Primary Children’s Hospital. After an emergency surgery, he was optimistic but faced another setback when the cancer returned last May.
Traveling primarily by car and plane, Wyatt’s next anticipated destination is Maine, where he looks forward to indulging in lobster. ‘I will just be happy to say that I’ve been to all 50 states,’ he said with a smile.
The Drysdale family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help realize Wyatt’s dream of visiting all his desired states, alongside updates on their travels being available on Instagram at @wyattourwarrior.
As they continue this touching adventure, the community’s support remains crucial, showcasing the collective effort to bring joy and hope to Wyatt during his fight against cancer.
