Thitisan ‘Jo Ferrari’ Utthanaphon, a 43-year-old former superintendent of Nakhon Sawan City Police Station, was found dead in custody at Khlong Prem Central Prison in Bangkok on Friday. His death, ruled as a suicide, has raised numerous questions, particularly from family members who express doubts regarding the circumstances surrounding it.
Thitisan was notorious for torturing a suspect to death in 2021, a case that garnered widespread attention. Relatives have voiced their concerns, citing Thitisan’s earlier complaints about being attacked by a prison guard and involvement in a fight with another inmate.
A forensic medical examination report, disclosed by Nation TV, revealed that Thitisan had sustained multiple injuries, including bruises on his left rib and under his left breast, suggesting he had been physically assaulted prior to his death.

On Sunday morning, a subcommittee dedicated to investigating allegations of torture and enforced disappearances participated in the autopsy process at the Central Institute of Forensic Science located in Bangkok’s Lak Si district. Pol Capt Dr Chokchai Sitthipolkul, who serves as vice-chairman of the subcommittee, stated that they would thoroughly examine the complaints made by Thitisan regarding the prison guard assault.
He emphasized that investigators from the Prachachuen Police Station, which received Thitisan’s complaints via his lawyer, would handle the inquiry into these allegations. ‘If there has been an offence that falls under the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act, legal action will be taken,’ he assured.
The subcommittee will submit the autopsy report to the court to further investigate the details surrounding Thitisan’s death. Meanwhile, Thitisan’s family and legal representatives are monitoring the investigation closely and plan to conduct an additional autopsy to compare findings.
