
IMPERIAL — On March 6, Imperial Valley College (IVC) celebrated its first-ever Health and Wellness Fair, a significant initiative aimed at enriching student health and well-being. The event delivered vital healthcare resources to students, including wellness education and support services.
Legacy MD Medical Group was a vital participant, providing free health checks and disseminating educational materials on health maintenance and access to medical care.
Workshop topics included:
- Managing stress and anxiety
- Mental health awareness and support services
- Nutrition and healthy eating
- Physical fitness and exercise
- Healthcare access barriers
- Available community health resources
The fair’s wellness stations offered students insights into various aspects of health, encompassing social, spiritual, and environmental health, as well as vaccinations and nutrition.
Lupita Castro, Director of Student Health Services at IVC, stated, ‘There is a high need to educate students on the importance of wellness for academic success, and we guide them with community resources available here on campus. We aim to increase accessibility and dismantle barriers surrounding mental health stigma’.
Continuing Support
Legacy MD Medical Group’s collaboration with IVC extends beyond the fair, providing year-round support through the IVC Student Health Center. This partnership ensures essential health and counseling services for enrolled students, safeguarding their access to medical care.

Dr. John Strong, Chief Medical Officer at Legacy MD, remarked, ‘Young people are our future, and providing them with resources to care for themselves establishes a foundation for a healthier tomorrow’. He continued to emphasize the link between student health and academic focus.
