Investigation Underway Following In-Custody Death at Hamilton County Jail
In the early morning hours of January 10, 2025, personnel from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were alerted to an unconscious inmate who had experienced a medical-related incident.
Corrections deputies and medical staff swiftly responded and provided aid while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance. The inmate was transported to a nearby hospital by Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services (HCEMS) but was unfortunately pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the inmate had a significant medical history and had recently declined medical treatment.
The District Attorney has been notified of the situation and has instructed the HCSO to proceed with a thorough investigation.
The deceased inmate has been identified as Floyd Zacharie. Mr. Zacharie was incarcerated on charges that included theft, criminal trespassing, public intoxication, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The HCSO urges the public to keep Mr. Zacharie’s family in their thoughts during this challenging time.
