Introduction
On January 7, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced the awarding of $1 million grants to 14 states and Washington, D.C. These funds are aimed at supporting the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) Medicaid Demonstration Program, which plays a critical role in expanding access to essential mental health and substance use services.
Selected States
The states selected for this funding include Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and West Virginia.
Program Objectives
Participants in the CCBHC Medicaid Demonstration Program are required to ensure that patients have access to a comprehensive range of services. These services must include care coordination, the incorporation of evidence-based practices, and support aligned with community needs assessments, notably including 24/7 crisis services.
Conclusion
This significant investment by SAMHSA will bolster mental health services across these states, aiming to improve the accessibility and quality of care for individuals facing mental health challenges.
