CHICAGO, December 12, 2024 — The American Heart Association (AHA), a global leader in promoting healthier lives, has launched a new blood pressure kiosk in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago. This initiative aims to empower local residents by providing accessible tools for managing their heart health, particularly in underserved areas.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this initiative will occur at the Auburn Gresham Healthy Lifestyle Hub, located at 839 W. 79th Street, Chicago, IL 60620, on December 18 at 1 PM. The event is open to the public, inviting residents, community leaders, and health advocates to participate in this step towards better heart health.
The new kiosk is part of a larger redevelopment project led by the Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation (GAGDC), revitalizing a previously vacant office building into a community health hub. Brittany Walsh, Executive Director of the AHA, shared, ‘We are thrilled to bring this resource to the Auburn Gresham community. High blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke, and providing accessible tools like this kiosk is essential for empowering individuals.’
The kiosk offers free, user-friendly blood pressure monitoring and educational materials to help residents understand their readings and receive referrals for further medical care. Kathy Welch, Executive Administrator of GAGDC, noted, ‘This kiosk symbolizes self-care and advocacy for better quality of life, thanks to our collaboration with the AHA and UI Health.’
Community members are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and explore the resources available at the Healthy Lifestyle Hub. Together, the American Heart Association, GAGDC, and UI Health are committed to advancing health equity and fostering a healthier future for everyone.
