Lexington Kicks Off 2025 with Wellness-Themed Events

As the new year approaches, Lexington is gearing up to help individuals stick to their New Year resolutions focused on wellness. Throughout January, the city plans to host an array of wellness-themed events as part of its 250Lex celebration, commemorating its 250 years of existence.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton emphasized the enthusiasm, stating, ‘We are ready to hit the ground running…literally,’ during a recent press conference announcing the month’s activities.

Many events planned for January will be free of charge, beginning with special classes at all four Lexington YMCA locations on January 5. Stephanie Arnold, Executive Director of Philanthropy for the YMCA of Central Kentucky, confirmed that residents can check schedules and sign up for events via the YMCA’s website.

Free classes will include unique offerings such as Exercise “Speed Dating,” health screenings, yoga, and even an Afrobeat Dance Class. Arnold stated, ‘The 250Lex Health and Wellness committee is excited to bring activities and events to the community in 2025 to inspire and support our neighbors in setting goals for a healthier self.’

Additionally, the Kentucky Blood Center will initiate a campaign urging blood donations, with a goal of recruiting 250 new donors this January. Community members can visit donation centers in Beaumont and Mapleleaf Drive for participation.

The University of Kentucky Healthcare will also contribute to the wellness initiatives, providing a free lifestyle change program aimed at those at risk of Type 2 diabetes. Registration for this program opens on January 29, wherein participants can take an assessment test to determine eligibility.

Beyond physical wellness, organizers emphasize a holistic approach. Arnold highlighted, ‘From traditional wellness initiatives, like movement and nutrition, to exploring the mental and spiritual benefits of connectedness and community, there will be opportunities for the whole Lexington community to participate.’

A Jazz Blues Soul series, presented at the Lyric Theater every Thursday from January 9 to March 13, will celebrate local musicians and foster community engagement under the guidance of Executive Director Christian Adair. ‘We hope these Thursday evenings become a staple for friends, family and neighbors to enjoy music and make lasting memories together,’ Adair expressed.

The full calendar of the 250Lex events can be accessed at the official celebration website, ensuring that residents can stay updated on opportunities for community involvement.
