Inaugural MADD Dry 5K Set for Sunday at Fairfield University

Fairfield, CT – A New Year Kicking Off with Purpose

The inaugural MADD Dry 5K will take place this Sunday at 9:00 AM at Fairfield University’s Leslie C. Quick Jr. Recreational Complex. This new event offers participants an opportunity to kickstart the new year with health and wellness in mind. It aligns with Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s (MADD) mission of Impaired Driving Ends Here® by encouraging new personal goals and participation in Dry January.

Strong Community Support

With over 200 participants expected, this event is anticipated to raise thousands for MADD Connecticut. The Fairfield University Women’s Basketball team will volunteer to support the cause, showcasing their commitment to community betterment.

Schedule and Activities

The morning starts with packet pick-up and registration at 7:30 AM, followed by the race at 9:00 AM. Each participant will receive a branded long-sleeve tech shirt as a memento of their involvement in MADD’s mission against impaired driving. After the race, grab-and-go snacks will be available, along with a 10:00 AM awards ceremony recognizing top finishers across various age categories.

A Personal Connection to the Cause

John Bysiewicz, the race coordinator, brings personal experience to this event, having been impacted by an impaired driver himself. He expresses deep commitment, stating, ‘MADD and this event truly mean a lot to me. Having witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of drunk driving on individuals and their families, I’m committed to helping prevent others from going through the same pain.’

Addressing a Continuing Concern

With drunk driving being a significant issue in Connecticut—over 100 fatalities and countless crashes each year—the MADD Dry 5K serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of awareness and prevention strategies.
