January is Mental Wellness Month

Kickstart Your 2025 with Mental Wellness Initiatives

As we step into 2025, January is recognized as Mental Wellness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about mental health and emotional well-being. This initiative encourages individuals to reflect on their mental health status and seek support if needed.

Organizations both locally and nationally are emphasizing the significance of mental wellness, which includes understanding emotional health, fostering strong relationships, and building resilience to cope with life challenges.

\”As we observe Mental Wellness Month, we encourage all West Virginians to take active steps toward prioritizing their mental health and overall well-being,\” said Nicholas Stuchell, Interim Commissioner of the DoHS Bureau for Behavioral Health. \”Mental wellness is just as vital as physical health, and reaching out for help is a powerful act of self-care and strength.\”

Available Support Programs

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DoHS) funds and promotes several programs designed to assist individuals and families in maintaining mental wellness:

  • HELP4WV: A 24/7 helpline for those struggling with mental health or addiction issues. This service connects callers to treatment options tailored to their specific needs. For support, call, text, or visit HELP4WV.
  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: This national helpline provides access to trained crisis counselors available around the clock. Individuals in distress can call or text 988 for immediate support.
  • Community Behavioral Health Resources: The DoHS also funds local initiatives to promote mental wellness statewide. More information is available on their website.

Christina Mullins, the Deputy Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders, shared that \”Our mental health is a cornerstone of overall wellness, and prioritizing it should be part of our everyday lives. We are committed to ensuring that every West Virginian has access to the tools and resources they need to navigate life’s challenges and thrive.\”

As support for mental wellness continues to evolve, community initiatives and nationwide programs highlight the importance of prioritizing mental health. The acknowledgment of Mental Wellness Month serves as a reminder to everyone about the significance of taking care of their emotional well-being.
