New Caucus Aims to Promote Healthier Lifestyles in America

Representative John Joyce, a Republican from Pennsylvania, has joined forces with fellow Republican Representative Lloyd Smucker to launch the “Make America Healthy Again Caucus” in the U.S. House of Representatives. This initiative seeks to address the critical issue of public health in America.

The main goal of the caucus is to encourage healthier lifestyles among Americans by improving access to affordable, high-quality foods and primary care. Senator Roger Marshall from Kansas is set to lead the initiative in the Senate.

Joyce, who is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, stressed the significance of nutritious food and physical activity. He noted, ‘Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District is home to farms, orchards, and dairies that provide nutritious and healthy food for the American people.’ He expressed excitement about collaborating with Smucker, Marshall, and others to make America the healthiest country globally.

Smucker pointed out the ongoing health crisis in the country, pointing to declining life expectancy, increasing chronic diseases, and obesity rates. He stated, ‘There is a real need to address these public health emergencies, and we must act now to pursue policies that will help Americans make more informed decisions about their health and wellness.’

Support for the caucus also came from Representative Vern Buchanan of Florida, who remarked, ‘The chronic disease epidemic accounts for the vast majority of healthcare costs, disabilities, and deaths in the United States.’ He looks forward to collaborating with his colleagues in promoting healthier lifestyles and advancing research into chronic disease prevention and treatment.

The caucus is expected to work closely with the incoming Trump administration to foster a healthier nation.

Among its founding members are several other representatives from various states, including Brian Babin (Texas), Troy Balderson (Ohio), and Stephanie Bice (Oklahoma).

Before joining Congress, Joyce practiced medicine for over 25 years and is a graduate of Temple Medical School, with board certifications in internal medicine and dermatology.
