Shunmyo Masuno, a Zen Buddhist monk, has dedicated a section of his book “How to Let Things Go” to insights on refraining from complicating your life further. Here are his four key tips for conserving your energy and making life a little more manageable:
1. Think Positively
It’s challenging to maintain a positive outlook during hardships, but Masuno emphasizes, “Will spending lots of time worrying help? It will not.” Remaining optimistic allows you to seek solutions rather than dwelling on problems. By consciously choosing positivity, you can reduce anxiety and foster better outcomes.
2. Trust Your Decisions
Although gathering opinions can be beneficial, Masuno warns against overvaluing others’ input, saying, “All these opinions may confuse you… To avoid this, you must first know your own mind.” Remember, you are the main character in your life’s story, and confidence in your decisions is crucial.
3. Learn from the Past
Every individual’s journey includes successes and failures. Masuno notes, “Both successes and failures are already in the past.” Acknowledge that change is constant and avoid getting stuck in past triumphs, as new opportunities await your discovery.
