As the New Year is ushered in by revelers, people around the world vow to adopt healthier practices.
The 1-Pacman Party List looks forward to this fresh wave of resolutions for wellness among Filipinos and gets vital affirmation about its advocacy for sports and youth development.
1-Pacman Party List chairman and first nominee Milka Romero stated, ‘We push for wellness beyond New Year’s resolutions with a slate of actions, both already in progress as well as planned.’
Initiated by 1-Pacman Rep. Mikee Romero, the law that mandated the creation of the Philippine Sports Training Center (Republic Act 11214) is now behind the shaping of the National Academy for Sports.
This law, which espouses sporting excellence through training, is among the 144 authored and co-sponsored by the 1-Pacman Party List under Romero, former Deputy Speaker of the House and chairman of the committee on poverty alleviation in the 19th Congress.
In the last quarter of this year leading up to the holidays, 1-Pacman continued with sports clinics and festivals while supporting sports and youth programs in various regions, including Cebu, Zambales, Zamboanga, Laguna, General Santos City, and Palawan.
Recently, over 200 young volleyball enthusiasts were given hands-on training by top players of Capital 1 Solar Spikers in programs held in Cebu.
Merriment and gift-giving, which also included senior citizens, followed these activities.
Milka Romero spoke to parents and senior citizens in Cebu, acknowledging their supportive roles. ‘We salute you for the nurturing that you have provided for all our athletes to become who they are now,’ she said, highlighting the efforts made by families in fostering their athletes’ careers.
Milka, herself an athlete, expressed gratitude for the encouragement received from her family: ‘From waking us up for early morning trainings to packing our meals, your support has been invaluable.’
Through sports advocacy, 1-Pacman aims to guide young athletes toward independence while building self-confidence. She encouraged the participating athletes with the reassurance that ‘Your stories will one day inspire children across our archipelago.’
Milka stressed the importance of a healthy and engaged youth population for the Philippines’ sustained development, noting that participating in sports fosters friendships and social skills that counteract sedentary lifestyles in today’s digital age.
With this in mind, she expressed optimism about New Year’s pledges for improved health habits, declaring, ‘This is certainly positive and augurs well for everyone.’
