WILSON BOROUGH, Pa. — The Wilson Area School Board anticipates a vote on Monday to appoint Harrison Bailey III, the current principal of Liberty High School, as the new superintendent of the Wilson Area School District. This decision aims to fill the vacancy left by former superintendent Douglas Wagner, who retired at the end of July.

If confirmed, Bailey will bring a wealth of experience and innovation to the role, having served as Liberty High’s principal since 2012 and earning recognition as the 2021 Pennsylvania Secondary Principal of the Year. His tenure has been marked by initiatives focused on student mental health and trauma-informed education.

Bailey holds degrees from Lafayette College and Lehigh University, in addition to a doctorate in education leadership from East Stroudsburg University. He began his career in education as a teacher at Freedom High School in Bethlehem before transitioning to administrative roles.

Innovative Educational Practices

One of the key contributions Bailey has made at Liberty is the establishment of a wellness center, which provides support and resources for students dealing with trauma and mental health challenges. This initiative has become critical during the COVID-19 pandemic, responding to the heightened need among students for a supportive learning environment.

In 2021, experts and peers recognized Bailey’s commitment to improving educational outcomes for students facing adversity. His work focuses on reshaping school culture to ensure a safe and nurturing environment conducive to learning.

The upcoming board vote will determine if Bailey can take the next step in his career, transitioning from principalship to district leadership. This appointment comes at a time when effective and compassionate leadership is essential in education.

Acknowledging Athletic Prowess

A native of Lakewood, New Jersey, Bailey has also made a name for himself in athletics. As a standout athlete, he played both football and track and field at Lafayette College, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022 for his achievements.

Whether through sports or educational leadership, Harrison Bailey III is poised to continue making a significant impact in the lives of students and the community at large.
