How Did a Local Girl Scout Earn a Gold Award?

Kameryn Rasberry, an 18-year-old with a passion for mental health, has turned her personal struggles into a beacon of hope for others. Her journey began with her own health challenges, which she now uses to help teens navigate their mental wellness.

What Inspired Kameryn’s Project?

Born with a congenital heart defect, Kameryn underwent a heart transplant at the age of 12. This experience, coupled with subsequent battles with cancer, anxiety, and depression, provided her with unique insights into mental health issues.

“As a teen, I feel like, sometimes, mental wellness is not really… it’s silenced,” Kameryn shared. “We really go through problems as well, just like adults.”

What Resources Does the Website Offer?

Kameryn created a website specifically for teens, offering resources such as coping strategies, exercise tips, and affirmations. These tools are designed to foster a positive mental outlook.

“I’ve used all of the website, all of the videos and articles that are on there,” she explained. “I’m hoping that it helps everyone else get through these challenging times.”

How Did Kameryn Achieve the Gold Award?

As a dedicated Girl Scout, Kameryn made the Achieving Mental Wellness site her Gold Project, earning her the Gold Award, the highest honor for youth members.

“I knew I wanted to do something big, impactful, and sustainable,” she said. “That’s where I thought about doing the website.”

What’s Next for Kameryn?

With her project complete, Kameryn is now preparing for college at Loyola University, aspiring to become a pediatric cardiologist. Her story is a testament to resilience and the belief that “there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.”
