This initiative is part of a collaboration with Community Health Options and the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) to promote fitness across Maine.
Event Details
The grand opening will take place at 131 Perkins Street, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony from noon to 2 p.m. This Fitness Court follows the successful launches of similar courts in Lewiston and Hampden in 2022.
What is a Fitness Court?
The Fitness Courts are designed to provide free outdoor exercise equipment accessible to anyone over the age of 14, regardless of fitness level. Users can engage in a full-body workout utilizing seven exercise stations in just seven minutes, adapting the routines to their own pace and abilities.
Digital Support for Fitness
Participants can enhance their experience by downloading the Fitness Court App, which serves as a personal coach, making outdoor workouts more interactive and supportive. The Fitness Court is open to students, staff, and the wider community.
Community Impact
Kevin Lewis, president and CEO of Community Health Options, emphasized the importance of free fitness access in fostering healthy communities. Joseph McDonnell, UMF president, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the university’s commitment to public health and wellness opportunities for all residents.
