Overview
HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) – City leaders in Hoover are progressing with their plans for enhanced healthcare access following a judge’s recommendation to issue a Certificate of Need (CON) for the Riverwalk Health & Wellness Center.
What is a Certificate of Need?
A CON is a requirement in Alabama that permits healthcare providers to expand their medical services.
Project Details
The development will feature an ambulatory surgery center and a diagnostic center, alongside housing, retail spaces, and wellness opportunities. Riverwalk Village will be integrated into a broader healthcare district stretching from Interstate 65 to US Highway 31, and from the Cahaba River to Valleydale Road.
Current Status
The Hoover Health Care Authority submitted an application for the CON in January, aiming to establish the surgery and diagnostic centers at Riverchase Office Park. However, in March, Forest Park Group, LLC opposed this application, leading to a case being presented before an administrative law judge.
Judge’s Ruling
Officials believe the opposition was politically motivated, and Judge DeGraffenried’s ruling favored the citizens of Hoover.
Next Steps
The Hoover Health Care Authority is scheduled to present before the CON Board in Montgomery on September 18.
