Petal Elementary School Receives $50,000 for Health and Wellness
PETAL, Miss. (WDAM) – Petal Elementary School is excited about new upgrades after being named a 2024 Healthy School Award Winner by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
The foundation awarded Petal Elementary School a $50,000 check to support its health and wellness initiatives.
School officials expressed their commitment to ensuring students’ health, both physically and socially. Principal Wyn Mims stated, “We are looking at ways of increasing our ability to help students foster physical wellbeing through physical exercise, through our physical education classroom, as well as activities outside in our playground.”
Additionally, Mims highlighted the importance of social wellbeing, mentioning the role of counselor programs and integrating character traits into general education classrooms.
Plans include purchasing new playground equipment, expanding the curriculum, and introducing a healthy snack shack for students.
