Azusa’s Back-to-School Festival
To prepare for the school year and wrap up the summer, the city of Azusa hosted a free back-to-school festival for teens at Memorial Park on Friday, Aug. 16.
The city hosted the “Azusa Teen Festival: Cruising through the Tropics” at the park gymnasium, transforming the area into a cruise ship – welcoming Azusa teens to “cruise” back into the school year.

The city partnered with Kahula Voyage, a Polynesian entertainment company, to create an immersive experience for those in attendance.
The event consisted of a welcome ceremony, Polynesian music and dances, Hawaiian BBQ, a chocolate fountain, interactive games, a silent disco and chances to speak with community leaders.
Upon arrival, attendees were serenaded by a professional ukulele player and greeted with lei as they boarded the “cruise ship.”
Other stations on the “ship” included the “Compass Cafe” with boba and a Hawaiian soda bar, the “Discovery Dock” that provided ukulele lessons, and the “Adventure Pier” equipped with a surfing simulator and a mechanical shark.
Covina’s Welcome Back Events

The Covina-Valley Unified School District also hosted a “Welcome Back Convocation” event for administrators, staff and teachers on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Northview High School gymnasium.
The event offered a space for faculty and staff to prepare for the school year – providing a Health & Wellness Fair, complimentary breakfast, vendors and motivational speaker Clint Pulver.
“Teacher of the Year” and “Employee of the Year” videos were also showcased at the event.
The district also hosted their annual “Back to School Extravaganza” event on Tuesday, Aug. 13 where they provided free school essentials for disadvantaged students – such as backpacks, school supplies, lunch boxes and haircuts.
Complimentary oral, health, and wellness screenings were also provided at this event.
