5 wellness things to do this weekend, August 16-18, in Hong Kong, including a tango class
How do you want to spend this weekend? A half-day retreat on Lantau offers the ancient cacao ceremony, kundalini yoga, a glimpse into the Akashic records, and an ecstatic dance ceremony.
You could hang out in a hammock letting the sounds of gongs drown out your anxiety and stress, learn new dance steps, visit a wellness expo, or learn a new racquet sport.
You are spoiled for choice.
1. Floating Zen at Red Doors Studio on Sunday
Treat yourself to a relaxing Sunday with Yumi and Stephanie at Red Doors Studio, as they combine the immersive power of gongs with the healing energy of reiki.

The gongs’ vibrations relax the mind, release tension, and are supposed to promote healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
This Sunday’s sessions are from 10.30am to 11.45am, and from 12.30pm to 1.45pm, and are in English, Cantonese, or Japanese. You can either use a hammock or a mat.
Each session, which is open to anyone aged 12 and above, ends with home-made spiced tea and brownies and costs HK$350, with discounts for seniors and full-time students.
All equipment is provided; just bring your own comfortable clothes, although you are welcome to bring your own crystals to be recharged.

2. Half-day retreat of exploration and renewal at Pause Studio
Fiona Teo and Noel Tuan present this transformative half-day retreat on Saturday, designed to rejuvenate your spirit and ignite your inner light.
It opens with a talk on the Akashic Records, to gain insights into your soul’s journey and participate in a guided experience to access these records. A Kundalini yoga session follows, to awaken your inner energy and align your mind, body, and spirit through breathwork movement and meditation.
Fiona will perform a sacred cacao ceremony, an ancient ritual that nurtures connection and self-love.
She will then lead a 5 elemental ecstatic dance, guiding participants through the energies of earth, water, fire, air, and spirit, to explore your inner world and embody your true essence on a journey of self-discovery through movement.
The retreat begins at 12.30 and ends after 6pm. The cost is HK$1,150.

There is no need to bring a partner (although you can) as partners are rotated during each class, with the number of men to women balanced as closely as possible.
Trial classes run on most Sundays – the next one with available spots is on August 25 at 2.15pm – but you can jump straight into beginner classes, which are held on several days of the week, including Saturdays.
The fee for a trial class is HK$210 per person or HK$180 for early bird bookings, made seven days in advance. Advance registration is required. Packages are available for regular group classes.
