Introduction
KEARNEY, Neb. – The Kearney Police Department is taking a significant step towards enhancing the mental and physical well-being of its emergency responders by introducing a wellness app operated by Cordico. This initiative acknowledges that emergency responders often encounter more traumatic incidents than the general population.
Features of the Wellness App
The app will not only be available to KPD personnel but also to their families. It includes a comprehensive wellness toolkit that addresses 60 behavioral health topics, including suicide prevention and alcohol abuse. Additionally, the app provides contact information for local therapists, ensuring that users have access to vital resources.
Confidentiality and Accessibility
All information within the app will remain confidential, and services will be accessible 24/7. This ensures that users can find support during their most challenging moments. The initiative is funded by LB615, also known as the Nebraska Opioid Recovery Fund.
Commitment to Mental Health
“As an organization, we are proud to adopt this wellness app which will serve to strengthen our commitment and priority to the health and well-being of our personnel, their family, and the community,” said KPD Chief Bryan Waugh. “We strive to be on the forefront of shaping our profession’s culture when it comes to mental health and wellness, and leveraging this technology helps us do just that.”
Conclusion
This innovative approach by the Kearney Police Department highlights the importance of mental health support for those who serve our communities. By providing accessible resources and promoting a culture of wellness, they are setting a positive example for other departments.
