Overview of the Event
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Local health care professionals, caregivers, and older adults gathered at USI’s campus Thursday to focus on topics involving aging and wellness. This marks the 16th year for the Mid-America Institute.
Topics Covered
During the two-day event, attendees can learn about various health topics, including exercise, dementia care, chronic disease management, and mental health. This event is not only for seniors but also for those who care for them.
Future of Aging in America
According to officials at Anthem, by 2030, for the first time in US history, there will be more individuals aged 65 and older in the country. “People are living longer than ever, so this is uncharted territory. A lot of this is understanding the aging process, healthy aging, and best practices,” they noted.
Support for Students
During the event, university leaders announced that USI received a $100,000 grant from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. This funding will help provide scholarships for USI students enrolled in various gerontology programs.
Conclusion
As we look toward the future, understanding the dynamics of aging and wellness becomes increasingly important. This event serves as a vital platform for knowledge sharing and support among professionals and caregivers alike.
