It may be hot in Hong Kong this weekend, but there are plenty of cool things to do, from trying out an Olympic sport, chilling out with a singing bowl or gong bath session, to floating in a relaxing pod.
Check out these five ways to spend healthy time.
1. Take a trial fencing class
Have you caught fencing fever after watching Hong Kong’s Vivian Kong Man-wai and Cheung Ka-long win gold in the sport at the Paris Games? If you are keen to try it for yourself for its many mental and physical health benefits, enrol in a trial class this weekend.

Hong Kong Fencing Master offers 90-minute sessions for teens and adults on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. The cost is HK$680 (US$87), and includes the loan of necessary gear. There are also special “taster” classes for children as young as three that run for just under an hour. The cost is HK$430. Click here for details.
If you have friends who would like to try a class together, book a one-hour workshop for five people for HK$2,400; add HK$200 per person for each additional joiner up to a maximum of 8. For details, click here.

2. Singing bowl and gong bath sessions
By the end of the working week, you might feel like tuning out all that stress and anxiety. Book yourself into a Friday evening singing bowl sound bath from 6.45pm to 8pm, or a Saturday afternoon floating sound bath from 3pm to 4.15pm at Tune In Wellness in Wan Chai.
The cost of each session is HK$480 per person, HK$900 for two. Book through Eventbrite (with a service charge), or contact practitioner Malbert Lee by email at [email protected]. For details, click here.

3. Join a HK Hiking Meetup hike
The eight-kilometre (five-mile) trek begins at 8am at the MTR station, then continues along Mount Parker Road to Quarry Gap to the Tai Tam Reservoirs, and ends at Tai Tam Road. It is estimated to take about two hours.
The group hosts dozens of hikes of varying lengths and levels of difficulty throughout Hong Kong every month, led by experienced hikers. For details and to sign up to the event – after you have signed up to Hong Kong Hiking Meetup – click here.

4. Attend a prenatal yoga class
Mums- and dads-to-be can sign up for Sarah Kam’s one-hour class at Hikari Yoga on Saturday at 2.45pm or on Sunday at 1.30pm. Kam has taught yoga for pregnant women for more than 10 years.
The session helps couples convey thoughtfulness and trust to one another through skin contact. The parents’ happiness passes on to the fetus. The cost is HK$580 per couple. For details, click here.

5. Take a float and an icy plunge
Let go of your stress and tension in a float pod at Float Co, alone or with another person. This sensory deprivation tank simulates meditation, and can help you enter a state of deep focus and clarity. It can also help to reduce any pain and inflammation and improve sleep.
Take a cold plunge before or after your float session. As many elite athletes have discovered, it can stimulate natural healing processes and boost energy levels.
A single float experience is HK$900 for a singles pod and HK$1,500 for a double. A single cold plunge is HK$300 and HK$450 for couples. Newcomers can get a discount.
