New Bedford Community Health Center Hosting Health Fair Aug. 10
The Greater New Bedford Community Health Center has been serving area residents for over 40 years, yet many locals remain unaware of its existence. To address this, the center is hosting the We Care Health Fair on Saturday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., as part of National Health Center Week.
CEO Cheryl Bartlett discussed the event on Townsquare Sunday, highlighting that the health center serves approximately 23,000 patients with nearly 90,000 visits annually. Services include primary care, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services, dental care, and behavioral health.
What Can Attendees Expect?
The health fair will focus on health disparities, aiming to educate attendees about the higher incidence of diseases in minority populations. Bartlett stated, “We want to educate and make people aware of these disparities, and learn about what types of services and prevention we can offer.”
Participants can look forward to free health screenings, wellness information, and family-friendly activities. The event will feature 20 vendors providing information on MassHealth enrollment, emergency preparedness, and mental health resources. Additionally, there will be backpack giveaways filled with school supplies, raffle prizes, snacks, and more.
Where and When?
The We Care Health Fair will be held at 399 Acushnet Avenue, at the rear of the Community Health Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Future Plans
Bartlett also mentioned that the center is looking to extend its hours into the early evening in the fall and has recently acquired the entire block on Purchase Street to expand its services.
